Course Overview

U.S. History for 8th grade will be taught with an emphasis on critical thinking and analysis of evidence, primary and secondary resources, and valid argumentation.  Students are expected to read a variety of non-fiction, participate in activities, and maintain organization of information and documentation. 
 
Grading for this class is weighted by category, and final trimester grades will account for very few yet heavily weighted assignments, exams, and DBQ essays.
 
8th grade U.S. History begins with the late Colonial Era and ends at the turn of the 20th Century and the Industrial Revolution.  Topics will include: geography, the American Revolution, The U.S. Constitution, the early Republic, Jacksonian Democracy, Manifest Destiny, the Era of Reform, the Civil War, and early Immigration.
